Perspective/Spring 2018, a report from J.D. Power Valuation Services, shows that incentive spending has grown for 36 consecutive months and reached an average of nearly $3,800* per unit in March 2018.  Additionally, the report stated that incentive spending relative to MSRP reached 10.6% in March 2018.

Higher incentives on new vehicles, which are expected to climb higher, have a strong bearing on the price of late model used vehicles.

The Perspective report also shows that new light truck deliveries accounted for 67% of the market in March.  In March 2017 light truck sales accounted for 62% of the market.

*Autodata reported the actual incentive was $3,794 per unit versus $3,563 in March 2017.

The shrinking car sales market is real
Posted on: 05/10/2018

The best example is the statement from Ford Motor Co. in late April that it will shed most of its North America car lineup as part of a broad plan to save money and make the company more competitive in a fast-changing marketplace.

That plan includes getting rid of all cars in the region during the next four years including the Fusion, Taurus, CMax hybrid and Fiesta in the U.S., Canada and Mexico.  The Mustang and a compact Focus crossover are the only two remaining.

The U.S. market is rapidly changing as trucks and SUVs are dominating sales.
